Evaluation question 4: How did you use media technologies in the contruction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

RESEARCH / PLANNING

In the research stages for our task we primarily used Google to find out a lot of information on our genre. We had to know the conventions of Electronica so we could incorporate them into our music video. We also used Youtube, this allowed us to watch as many different mainstream and student
music videos as we wanted to. This gave us the inspiration and motivation we needed to start thinking of ideas for our music video. We looked at magazines like Q to get inspiration from other artists magazine adverts.

In the planning stage, we used iMovie to piece together an animatic storyboard which helped us to visualise how we imagined our video to look like.

CONSTRUCTION

During the construction of our music video we used many different technologies. Firstly, we used a Canon 6D camera with a steadicam. This meant that we could get smooth tracking shots, an example would be Ben pulling up to the edge of the field after just fleeing the scene. We decided to use this camera instead of the school one's because Tom already had this camera at home and due to it's low-light performance we thought it would be better considering we needed to film scenes with little light for most of the video.

For the birds-eye view shots of Ben laying in his bed trying to sleep we used a crane. This enabled us to get the correct height and angle we wanted for the shot. It also gave us a nice wide view so you could clearly see that Ben was having trouble sleeping.

In terms of editing the video, we used Final Cut Pro 10. This is a better quality editing software than iMovie and allowed us to experiment as much as we wanted. After we had fully edited the video we needed to colour grade the shots that we took in light conditions as they needed to be in the evening.

After this, we had feedback that said we should change the clock time for 6:30pm to something later so it looks like he is coming home in the evening and not like we just shot it after school thus making it look more professional. We fixed these issues using the software Motion 5.

To construct our magazine advert and digipak we used PhotoShop as it is a good editing software that allowed us to experiment with our different ideas. Because Ben had not released any magazine adverts and digipaks previously it meant we didn't have to follow any repetitive conventions that our artist had done and we could really make up our own style for what we believed Ben would release.

EVALUATIONS

To edit my evaluations i am using a range of different technologies, these include iMovie, Prezi and Blogger. Ensuring that i have a range of technologies used means i can show my variety and it will make it more interesting to read each one.
