Analysis of magazine advert in my genre

Calvin Harris - 'I Created Disco' magazine advert

This is the advert for Calvin Harris' album 'I Created Disco'. Calvin Harris is a major "feel good" artist that creates upbeat tracks and i think this comes across well with the colour scheme of the advert which is a bright yellow. The yellow really makes the advert stand out by creating attraction to it. The wacky colour and the glasses on Calvin's face relates to what it can be like at a disco which is ironically near what the album is called.

The advert also has a close up of Calvin's face which allows the audience to recognise that it is his album. It follows a theme that most of his album covers has; an image of Calvin's face in a close-up. His single cover for 'The Girls' was exactly the same as this poster but in a different colour scheme. The similarities allows customers to recognise that it is one of Calvin's albums/singles.

The typography design is cool because the font fits in with the wacky retro style of the cover. Calvin Harris has his name on the cover each down one side which makes it easily seen and easily read by customers. The album title is centered under Calvin's face and then the release date is underneath that. The information flows nicely because under that it has some known singles that Calvin has released previously to the album release which would make customers want to buy it if they had heard those singles and enjoyed them.

Down in the bottom right hand corner it says "Available at amazon.co.uk" which is a good alternative because not everyone can get to a shop to buy an album so they might want to order it online, therefore becoming more appealing.

From analysing this magazine advert I have found that you don't have to always use an image of the artist on the magazine advert. If you have a logo or image that people know then you can just use that. The use of saying the album is available on Amazon is good because not everyone can get into a shop so being able to order it online is a good alternative to offer. From this magazine advert I will apply the option of Amazon and the bold use of colour as I have noticed that this is what electronica artists use to attract attention.
